General Managers Message
Dayne Bulloch

Kia ora kotou,

Things are certainly moving ahead at the club as the below pictures show.  There has been a flurry of activity around ground testing for the new clubhouse and cart shed, Colin is well into the rock work for the new bridge between 18 and 12, and KD is getting the new 12th tee levelled out.  There will also be more work next week with the maintenance week occurring.  At the moment Shane is on single hand duty with Nathan and Mike being struck down by Covid, a reminder it is still about.

If you are willing and able to help next week please contact Dave Ashton on 0221395896.  He is organizing the volunteers for the week.  Volunteers are required on Monday at midday and Tuesday and possibly Wednesday at 8 am.

On Sunday morning we are hosting another round of Pennants as the competitions get to the business end of the year.  The Championship Men are currently second in the Gold group, the intermediate Men are 6th in a very tight Blue group along with the Junior men team in their group.  The Senior Men are 5th in their Golf group.

In some sad news, over the last week we have lost a couple of our members, Keith Roberts and Russell Reynolds passed away over the last week, the flag has been at half-mast for both of them.

Just a reminder that with the course being closed next week the clubhouse and all amenities will also be closed.

Enjoy the week off!

Captains Corner 28.3.25

Firstly let me apologise for my typo in last week’s newsletter.  Yes, it is official we are going back to a TWO Tee start as of Saturday 5th April, so book your tee time asap.  Don’t forget that we are having our maintenance week next week with coring starting on Monday.

We have our Triangular Tournament on Sunday 6th April and we need as many players as possible to win back the Shield.  Entry sheets are in the Men’s and Ladies locker rooms.  Shotgun start 10 am.  Morning tea before we start.  Come and support the Club and meet members from Waihi and Whangamata Golf Clubs.

Also don’t forget we have the Rosie Tray Tournament on Anzac Day 25th April, this is a mixed event however there will also be Men’s and Ladies individual prizes.  As always I am sure this event will be well supported as it is one of our more iconic tournaments.  Book in and pay at the office.

Finally, Colin Gee is on the home stretch of his bridge build on the 12th so when you are passing go and check it out and give him a pat on the back for his hard work; he has done an amazing job.

If Swampy, Colins loyal 2IC is there, give him a pat on the back as well for his contribution.

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week we had a fun club day and played Par.  We had a field of 25 players who were still enjoying the summer weather.  Lyn Harrison had a boomer of a game as did Sue Smith and both won the top prizes.  Other winners who received a golf ball were - Jacqui Kerr, Lesley Paton, Irene Hallam, Pauline Thurston, Ali Howarth and Yvonne Hoskins.  We also had a raffle (with three draws) which was won by Yvonne Hoskins, Sue Waller and Dianne Mahoney.  Congratulations to all our winners.  Last Monday our interclub team played Fairview at Ohope and came third for the day, BUT are presently coming second overall.  Well done team. Friday this week our Pennants team is playing at Waihi.  We wish you luck, and a fine day.

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

  • The 12th tee is gradually taking shape. KD has been putting in long hours constructing drains, leveling clay and topsoil. Please take extra care when walking to the white tees.

  • Approaches to the 12th bridge mowing strips are complete with boxes poured and drains finished. The rock surrounds still need to be completed, and the approaches will be leveled on slabs. Almost there!

  • The Matchplay Finals Day was a huge success! Congratulations to all the winners, and the field enjoyed a lovely BBQ in beautiful weather.

  • A big shout-out to our sponsors who played 9 holes in beautiful conditions and enjoyed a BBQ and drinks at the after-match function. Our grateful thanks to all our sponsors -without you, our golf days would be prizeless, which makes them truly priceless. Cheers to all!

  • On a sad note, we mourn the loss of Val Doig. Val was involved with pennants in the 80s and 90s, was a past Ladies President, and a former board member. Our sympathies go out to Sue and the family for the loss of an icon of the club.

  • Don't forget to let Dave Ashton know if you are available for coring next week.

Happy Golfing!
