General Managers Message
Dayne Bulloch

Kia ora koutou,

We start moving into a new part of the year with holiday makers heading back home, schools starting next week, and our big tournaments for the year already behind us, but we still have plenty of summer left to get out and enjoy the course!

This week I wanted to remind all members that each of you has a members or 'house' account.  When you become a member of Omokoroa golf club you automatically get one.  When you grab a drink at the bar, give your membership number, and then the loyalty amount is put onto your account which can be used to make purchases at the bar, pro-shop, and cafe.  The money on your account cannot be used to pay for subscriptions, but can be used at the bar, cafe, and in the pro-shop for product.  Also, some club haggles will pay any winnings into your account which makes it a cheap way to pay for that next beer or sandwich!  if you have any questions regarding the house account please reach out.

On Monday the 7th Hole will be closed for laying of concrete for the cart path.  On Monday give yourself two stable points on the 7th and move onto the 8th this will be the easiest two points you will make this week!

Captains Corner

Unfortunately with only 32 entrants for Opening Day on Sunday on 2nd February, as of Thursday  30th we have had to cancel the Opening Day competition.  With the pressure on the course, especially on Sundays, it is not possible to run a shot gun start and close the course for such a small field.  At this time last year we had a field of 116 members.  Hopefully we can repeat this number for Closing Day at the end of the year.

During our current summer daylight hours Club Members are taking to the course early in the morning outside the normal Tee opening time of 7 am and teeing off the 1st .  Unfortunately, this has created a few problems in the field when this clashes with members who have booked a time on the 10th tee at 7 am.

Those who have teed off early and are attempting to play 18 holes must be through the 10th hole before the tee opens at 7 am.  The members that have booked and are on the 10th Tee or playing the 10th hole have priority.  Players cannot simply jump the field because they are on the course and have already played 9 holes.  They must wait for an appropriate break in the field or, if not possible, finish their game after 9 holes. Anyone teeing off before the recognised tee times do not have any rights on the course, you must give way to green staff and players who have booked in the tee sheet.

I have an upcoming PGA assignment; preparing players for competition

I am looking for one player that has a competition coming up in the next 4-6 weeks who would be prepared to commit to a pre-competition plan and goal setting which we would set together. The event can be anything from, a pennants match, a futures event, club event you want to prep well for. At the conclusion of your event, we would sit together again to conduct a review. The plan, the learnings, your name (if comfortable) your feedback, and my review of the whole process would then be submitted to the PGA in my assignment. If you would like to work with me on the assignment, please get in touch staceykoppensgolf@gmail.com

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

After a pleasant Christmas / New Year break the 9 hole ladies participated in their Opening Day yesterday.

We had a field of 40 players who enjoyed the stunning weather and played Russian Roulette in pairs.

Winners on the front nine were Colleen Blair and Diana O'Brien, runners up were Jacqui Crossfield and Robyn Lamborn.

Winners on the back nine were Shirley Johnstone and Vicki Burns, runners up were Dianne Mahony and Lyn Bird.  Well done ladies.

As it was a 'fun' day we had prizes for closest to the pin number 4 won by Jacqui Kerr;  longest drive number 5 won by Margaret Griffiths; and longest putt number 8 won by Margaret Seavill.

Closest to the pin number 11 won by Rohanne Hancock;  longest putt number 13 won by Carolyn Robinson; longest drive number 18 won by Vicki Burns.  Great effort ladies.

The lucky draw was won by Dianne Litten.

Looking forward to good golfing in 2025.

Men's World

Well done to last week’s Saturday Haggle Winners, Robert Lee with a +3 score from the Blue tee winning on countback over Wilson Tamaki and Gerald Scantlebury. Vince Stanaway took out the White tee competition with a +5 score, a great score in a PAR competition. We have trialled PAR competition twice in the last couple of months and will likely play this format only a couple of times a year as it provides some variety to the traditional competitions we play.

This week is the first round of the Reg Carter Trophy, which is a net competition from the White tee over the next three Saturdays, all three rounds count so hopefully some good golf awaits!

Also remember you can enter the shootout at anytime, however your scores will only count after you have paid your entry.

The trial for starting from the 1st tee only commenced last Saturday. Once we have given it a go for the next few weeks the committee will evaluate how the trial is going.

If you have not seen the information on the upcoming matchplay championship, please check your email or see the information on the Mens Noticeboard. Your entry into the Qualifying round on the day of Saturday 22 February counts as your entry into the entire Matchplay championship.

Pennants starts this week with our Senior Team playing their first Match against Tauranga Golf Club at Ohope. Good luck to Senior Pennant Captain Denne Stewart and the rest of the team representing the club this Sunday. Other teams first match is on Sunday the 9th of February, we are still looking for an Intermediate Captain so please contact the office or the committee if you are interested in this role.

Also we have a new email address!

Please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz if you have any questions on Mens Golf or any constructive feedback for the committee.

Good golfing everyone!
