General Managers Message
Dayne Bulloch

A couple of massive golf weeks for the club have been completed, with the hosting aspect of the Barfoot and Thompson 5 Course Classic coming to a close yesterday.  The course has held up amazingly well for the every drying weather conditions we have had and only positive feedback has been received.  Personally I want to thank Nathan and his team for getting and keeping the course in such great shape this week, Daryl and his volunteer team for setting up and the prize table and signage around the course, Sandra for keeping things ticking over for the week, all who helped out in the bar, and Tina and Conrad for keeping people fed.  Many people do not get to see behind the scenes when events like this occur, and it is a massive team effort to pull it off, and the team did a great job.

Tomorrow starts the one tee trial on Saturdays so when booking be aware of that.

Please note the bar and clubhouse will close at 5:45pm on Tuesday for staff training.

Enjoy the long weekend!

It was great to hear from all the competitors at the Barfoot & Thompson 5 Course Classic over the week how great the condition of our course, the organisation, hospitality and catering was well ahead of the other courses in the event.

Thanks to the green staff, Dayne & Sandra, bar staff and Tina & Conrad and a special thanks to those volunteers who helped me with the starting, registration and check in each morning, prizegiving and Mike for his assistance with the knock down Thursday night.

I am sure we are all looking forward to getting our course back after 2 big events and enjoying the balance of our summer.

Congratulations to the Winner of the Summer Cup, Paul Howell who with 37 points on Saturday managed to run down and pip runner up Steve Rumney by one solitary point. Some great scoring coming in over the course of the last few weeks, some handicaps will be coming down due to the great golf being played!

Next year we will look at altering the Summer cup to a mixture of tees chosen to play from, rather than being solely a Blue Tee competition over four weeks.

This week we have a standard Haggle, while the three Saturdays starting 1st February is the Reg Carter Trophy, which is a Best Net Competition from the white tees only.

The Greens are seeing a lot of wear at the moment, it would be great if the Mens Section could lead the way on making sure we all repair pitch marks on the greens (aim for at least one other than your own) and also making use of the new sand buckets for repairing divots on the fairways.

Important upcoming dates to remember is the Matchplay Championship - Please refer to the email that has been sent out.
Qualifying round on Saturday 22 February. The draw and individual matches start the following Saturday 1st March. Please see the information on the Mens Noticeboard regarding the structure and rules for this years Matchplay, as it is slightly different to what has been played in recent years. You must play the qualifying round as it is a critical element of the competition.

The Matchplay aims to reduce to the number of weeks the competition is played across, as well as increase the number of matches across the tournament. Depending on the number of entries there could be as many as 12-16 matches on finals day instead of just the 4 divisional finals, as we will be running plate and bowl competition elements as well.

We have agreed to a trial of starting all play from the 1st tee only on Saturdays. The trial increases the variety of tee times available to start Saturday Golf. The Mens field will now have start times from approximately 9.45am as well as the early option from 7am as usual. The trial will also give the greenkeeping staff more time to prepare the course on a Saturday so we can enjoy the best course condition possible for our competitive golf.

Pennant season is also upon us, we are looking for someone to Co-ordinate the Intermediate Pennant team, please contact the committee or see Dayne in the office to indicate your interest in this role.

Don’t forget to get your Shootout entry paid if you wish to qualify for this years shootout.

Happy Golfing everyone

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

An extremely busy month, with the successful Opens and a full field for the 5 course classic. Huge thanks to all our sponsors.

The number 7 cart path is now ready for concrete, watch this space. A big thank you to John Leek (Omokoroa Transport) for supplying his Hiab to lift the tilt slabs in for the bridge on 12. The old slabs have been reused on 3 and 5 to get the woodchipper on to the island.

Please keep clear of the trees that will be removed around the course, safety tape will be in place.

You will have noticed by now that the sand bins are in place and being utilized. Please put your empty buckets in the blue bins. Please note these are not rubbish bins

On a more sober note; Sorry to see Tina and Conrad are leaving. To quell rumors, they have built such a hugely successful business that they need a long rest from the long hours they have been putting in. We wish them both all the best for the future.

Happy golfing

On a personal note: I am looking for a flat mate to share costs and/or a place to rent. Please contact me if you are interested
