General Managers Message

Nga mihi o te tau hou, Happy New year to everyone.

We roll straight into a big month of golf tournaments, with the The Clubroom/Barfoot and Thompson Omokoroa Open and the Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic occurring in the next couple of weeks.  Nathan has the course in great condition, and with the wind we have about at the moment, it will prove a challenge for those playing this weekend.

As some of you may have noticed we have sand and sand buckets, thanks to Swampy, down on the first tee.  Couch is a creeping grass so we do not want you to replace your divots.  Instead we want you to fill the divot with sand.  This evens out the ground and the couch will spread over the sand and keep the fair ways smooth.  Once you have played return the buckets to the stations around the 18th or 9th green.

Thank you for those who have given feedback on the concept plan for the clubhouse. It is not too late to put your submission in.  Please go to the following link to complete your feedback https://forms.office.com/r/kySiv3HFVg alternatively you can fill out a print out of the questionnaire in the office.

Good luck for those playing in the Open this weekend and enjoy your summer golf.

Happy New Year To Everyone

Thank you to all those who entered in both the Christmas and New Years Eve events, a great day was had by all with some very good golf played.

Congratulations to the winners on the day.

Thanks to all the greens staff for their efforts over the Christmas/New Year period.

You will notice that the sand stations are now full of sand and our new sand buckets are ready for use.  I urge everyone to carry a bucket of sand with you and use it to fill in your divots on the fairways.  The cooch grass loves the sand and it promotes very rapid growth, so in the interests of better fairways, let’s use the sand buckets.

Please ensure that your bucket is empty of sand at the end of your round and place the empty bucket in the bin adjacent to the seats on the 18th.

For those that are playing very early on these summer mornings, please consider the green staff during your game, they start early to complete their work and these large early morning fields can disrupt their day.  Please be patient and let them complete their work unless they call you through.  There have been several close calls with shots played whilst they are working.  Please be considerate of them, they provide the course you are enjoying.

Let’s all look forward to another great golfing year at Omokoroa!

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

Well, Christmas and New Year sure seemed to fly by! Happy New Year to all our wonderful members, and welcome to 2025.

If you’ve been out on the course over the holidays, you’ve probably noticed how busy the greens staff and volunteers have been. They’ve been hard at work getting the course ready for the Open and the 5-Course Classic—it’s looking fantastic!

KD and Colin are making great progress on the 7th hole, preparing it for the concrete work. Firewood sales are still going strong, so be sure to catch up with Colin G if you’re keen to stock up. Pagey, Colin, and KD have done a terrific job trimming the hedges and tidying up the edges of the first cart path.

Swampy has given the tee blocks and markers a fresh coat of paint, and here’s some exciting news for our juniors: the purple and red tees are now official distance markers, making things a bit more straightforward for them.

Meanwhile, Jaquie and David Ashton have been working hard in the gardens, keeping everything neat and tidy for what’s shaping up to be a busy January.

Happy golfing, everyone!
