General Managers Message
Dayne Bulloch

Kia ora Kotou,

Over the next week or so, if you are lucky, you will see a new piece of equipment that the greenstaff will be using.  It is called a Ventrac.  This new piece of machinery can be used for a number of different purposes on the course as it has the option of 90 attachments from snow blowing (the weather would have gone crazy if that happens in the Bay) through to the likes of different mowing decks for the mowing the different areas of the course, as well as being able to aerate.

Having a unit that is this versatile we are able to sell a couple of out other mowers that will no longer be necessary, these will be going up for sale to help pay for the new unit.

Last month there was some spraying for dollar spot and a second spray to keep the Poa out of the greens, which seems to have done its job.  The second fairway has been sprayed and you will likely start seeing it change colour within the next week.  The volunteers have done a great job on the cart path on the seventh and will keep going ahead with that.

Staff Training:

On Monday 25th November we will be doing some staff training so the bar and office will be closed at 3:45pm.

Power Outage:

We have also been informed that the electricity will be turned off in the area from 9:30am and 3:00pm on Thursday December 5th which will result in reduced capabilities at the facility on that day.

Rock'n'Roll Night:

Finally, it is your last chance to grab tickets for the Rock n Roll evening on Saturday 30th November.

Mower Compeition:
As a special welcome to the Ventrac, we will be running a competition to name the new machine.  The winner will receive a $25 club credit. Send all entries to info@omokoroagolf.co.nz

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week a group of our ladies ventured out and played a putting competition at Smallgusta in Oropi.  We managed to get a round in without the rain.  This is a putting course, however, it has its challenges.  Winners on the day were Debbie Hardaker, Margaret Griffiths and Irene Hallam.  It was a fun morning followed by a delicious lunch at their cafe.

Men's World

To all Mens Players

We have a ‘changing of the guard’ this year after the Mens Annual meeting when the new committee was appointed.

I know they have been thanked numerous times already, but the time and effort put into Mens Golf by Swampy, Poppy, Steve and Tony and a few others over the many years really is remarkable, I do not think we will ever see the likes of it again anytime in the future.

Thanks again guys for all your commitment and hard work over the years. The new committee met on Saturday 9th November for the first time. We have reached some decisions on how things probably need to adapt to the changing demographic of the membership, and how societal changes are influencing the way members play their golf.

We hope to find the balance between maintaining the traditions we have built up at Omokoroa Golf club, and also evolving to new ways of doing things.

To this end we will be trialling some different options over the next few months. I ask that members give any new ‘ways’ a decent crack and allow the committee to review and implement any changes as we look ahead.

The first and most noticeable change we are trialling is that there will be no regular starter for Saturday Mens Golf. The start sheet is managed by the office, if consolidation of bookings needs to happen on the day then the office will manage any changes or accept late bookings to join the field.

We hope to have a digital monitor installed shortly which will have the tee sheet scrolling through as the time progresses during the day. It will be the players responsibility to ensure you are on time for your round to start, much like it is any other day of the week if you make a tee booking.

We are also exploring different prizegiving options, such as utilising some virtual prizegivings as well as our more traditional format prizegiving.

We are also working with the club management exploring for 2025 how to maximise exposure for our generous sponsors and looking to grow sponsorship for the club.

The committee is also in the final stages of setting next years event calendar, we are working with the other players groups to make sure events line up for each different group.

We are looking to diversify the types of competitons played at the club, as well as introduce some new formats and competitions. We will also be trialling different tee selection options for mens golf so players can have the choice to play the tee which is appropriate for the level of golf they wish to pursue.

Any constructive feedback is always welcome, we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead for the Mens Golf Programme at Omokoroa Golf Club.

Kind regards Ben Van den Borst

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

A special thank you goes out to Shirley Richardson, who has looked after our main garden for many years. After her long and dedicated voluntary service, Shirley is finally retiring.

We’d also like to recognise the outstanding effort put into our recent three day tournament, organised by Ian Graham and his very able team. A special mention goes to Ian Howells for his dedication and hard work - what a fantastic event!

We’re excited to announce the newest addition to our greenshed family -a state of the art Ventrac mower! This innovative machine is a game-changer for our course maintenance. With its versatility and multiple attachments, it’s designed to tackle a wide range of tasks. And for our players - your days of getting stuck in the rough are over! Check out the photos provided to see this mower in action.

Lastly, the 7th cart path project is halfway complete and on track to be finished in time for Phil’s presentation in early December. This event will coincide with the club renovation project presentation.

Thank you all for your continued support as we work together to keep our club vibrant and thriving!  Happy golfing.
