Manager's Message
Marcus Niles

Kia Ora Omokoroa GC Whanau

My last note as Manager of this wonderful club.  A big thank you to everyone who has supported me in my time here.  You all know who you are.  I won’t be a stranger as I will retain my membership here.

Massive thanks to all those many members who have said so many wonderful supportive things to me in the past few weeks.  I am humbled, and I have really felt the love!

I’m really proud of what we have achieved in my 3 years.  We have a strong Board who are working very hard in the background.  It’s a thankless job that all members should be very appreciative of.  Regardless of whether you agree with everything they do!  We also now have a great team of staff who work very hard to administer and present the course in the best possible way.  They are dedicated and committed to improving things for everyone and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

Dayne Bulloch is our new manager and I am confident he will carry on the good work and do his part take the club to the next level!  There are exciting times ahead for OGC.

Lastly, I’d love to see you all down at my new gig – Fore Seasons Indoor Golf in Tauriko.  When the course is wet and you can’t get a game, why not get your golf fix in air-conditioned comfort!?  #shamelessplug.  www.foreseasons.co.nz

Messages from the Bar
Matthew Farrell

I popped in with Georgie again for a school holiday lunch from Tina and Conrad. It was good to meet Dayne, and what a yummy pie too. Win, win. At the time of writing, congratulations to Export Ultra shirt winners Russell Croome and Brian Page, with two more winners to be drawn by the time you read this.

Recent and new products:

Leveret Estate Rose wine
Lindauer mini range
Tui beer on tap
DB Draught quarts on trial vs Tui quarts
Speights Summit Ultra bottles
Speights Mid Ale bottles
Bundaberg: Passionfruit, Lemonade, Peach
Honey Soy Chicken chippies

When it’s gone, it may be taken off:

Panhead XPA beer (other Panheads may return)
Peroni lager
Long White vodka RTD
Woodstock bourbon RTD
Gordon’s original London Dry Gin
Coruba and Coruba Gold rum
Diet Tonic Water

Tui on tap is selling OK, but not sensationally. We will keep this product for a couple of months, and see how popular it is with members through the spring, which seems a fair trial period. Summer options for this tap include Tui staying, or Tuatara APA being given a chance. The recent guest Tuatara Porter was fairly popular, but I was unable to obtain any more.

Heineken 0.0 (Zero) has been out of stock lately from our provider. I will keep looking for it, and in the meantime, I have arranged some of the Speights Summit equivalent. We also have Export Citrus and Steinlager Light low alcohol bottles, alongside Monteiths Light on tap.

The Monteiths craft beer range will arrive for spring and summer, as shelf space allows. Bottles will include Black, Sounds Hazy, Radler (zesty lemon), and Summer Ale (ginger/rata honey).

As always, my aim is to monitor sales data and the stock room, to provide you with a popular range of products at competitive prices while minimising waste. Thanks for your custom.

Finally, please return water glasses to the bar, so we can keep the water cooler hygienic for you.

Mexted & Jack Turner Trophies – 1st November 2024

A big thanks to John Herder, he has agreed to incorporate the above trophies into the Friday haggle field on the 1st November 2024.  There will be an increase for the days event from $7.00 to $10.00 to allow for prizes for the winners and runners up.
There will be drawn partners on the day however you wont play with your partner.  The event will be on stableford.
The normal Friday haggle will run in conjunction on the day.  It would be great to see a large turnout for these iconic Trophies, both men and ladies.

Upcoming Events

Kaimai Tray Interclub – Sunday 17th November 2024 – 8.30 am start at Omokoroa Golf Club
Between Omokoroa, Morrinsville, Omanu and Walton
I am looking for a minimum field of 20 men and 8 ladies for this event.  It is a stableford based competition.  We can have a larger field, the more the better.  The cost is $20.00 pp.  Entry sheets are hanging in the Men’s and Ladies locker rooms.
As it is played at home we have a great chance of taking back this tray.  This event goes back to 1990 so it will be great to keep it alive and well.

RockNRoll Night

Saturday 30th November, Dinner and Show – 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm - $55 pp
This will be another great night and get together before Xmas.  It is open to all and will be a great kick off for the Clubhouse renovation fundraising.

Christmas Tournament

Saturday 7th December 2024 – AM and PM fields
All members welcome (incl. Juniors) $25.00 pp
Great prize table, hams, turkeys etc.
The entry sheet will be in the office from the 21st October.
Please keep these dates aside, they will be great events.

Course marshaling will start this coming Monday 12th October

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

After a very wet day last week and no play, the sun shone for our game today.  We played Round 8 of our Shootout competition and a nett haggle.

Our winners today were Lyn Harrison with a great nett of 32, from a count back from Diana O'Brien, also with 32.   Janet Burmeister and Margaret Griffiths had a very respectable 35 and 36 respectively.

Well done ladies.
