Presidents Message
Swampy 'John' Marsh

Thursday 13th June was our AGM attended by almost 80 members a very good meeting with some healthy debate. We are in good hands with our expanding community, and we will not be left behind. There are many projects that will keep us up to date. Thank you to all the members who attended the meeting and gave their input. We have a great club with wonderful people welcome to our new board members.

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Neil Horne. A good number of golfers attended the funeral on Thursday. Neil was the Vets strokeplay champion in 2013 and also men strokeplay champion in 2017, He is the current C grade Champion. Our sympathy to Neil's Family. The Golfers attended presented a guard of honour.

The 16th native garden is looking great, anyone with native grasses they wish to donate for this project please see Colin Gee. One species is "Carex Buchanani"

9 Hole Ladies

This week we played Round 4 of Stableford.  Although the weather was fine, it was very cold to start with.  However, it didn't seem to hamper people getting top scores.  First with an incredible 25 Stableford points was Robin Lusby.  Debbie Hardaker was second with also an incredible 21 Stablefords, followed by Gail Latham, Jacqui Crossfield and Margaret Findsen - all with a respectable 18 points.  Well done ladies.

Men's Nine Hole Golf, Thursday 13th June 2024

A fine but cool day saw a good turnout of 37 players take to the fairways for Round 2 of the Kiwi All Stars v Rest of The World Competition

The battle was fierce with the Kiwi All Stars determined win the round and rob the Rest of the World of a walkover victory and force a playoff.

Alas it wasn’t to be and the Kiwi All Stars crumbled like a sad pack of Black Caps against a Rest of The World team coached by and led by their exceptionally talented and inspirational leader James Avis!

With the Rest of The World team taking 2 of the 3 wins the contest is now over. Congratulations to James and his team!

The format for the day was Ambrose and the Haggle prizes were awarded to the teams with the highest Net scores.

The winning teams were:

1st:    Bruce Blair, Trevor Smith, Ernest Taylor, Alec Dingle

29.5 combined score

2nd: Alan Hoskins, Spencer Tankard, Tom Martin, Rod McLeod

31 combined score

3rd: Mike Wall, Allan Winter, Brett Tapper

31.5 combined score

Raffle prizes were won by: Ian Trott, Bruce Blair, Cliff King

A special Thank You to our Club Caterers whose generous donation paid for the two Meat Pack prizes.

Next week, 20th June is Round 3 of the Shootout. For those of you entered in the Shootout please be sure to book on the opposite 9 to the one you played on for Round 2.

With heavy rain forecast for tomorrow you can stay inside by the fire and enjoy the opening day US Open.

Here’s a shoutout from us all to Ryan Fox!! Give it your best.

Our Mens Team lost to Otumoetai last Sunday at Opotiki. After finishing the clash tied at 4 matches all, we lost in a playoff to drop into the Plate draw. Jake Buskirk, Paul Shaw, Hugh Clark and Marty Jordan all had wins. Paul had an outstanding match shooting a 74 and winning 8/7.

This Sunday we play the Plate Match against Te Puke at our home Club.

Club Trundlers

Anyone with trundlers to donate to the Club, could you please give them to Hugh Moleta. Hugh with help from Steve Rumney will re-paint them yellow and do repair work needed to make them usable. The Club does appreciate the donations, which gives visitors a wide choice of trundlers to use.
