Vets Vibes
Ross Milne

Captains Murmurings.

I had an interesting discussion with a member after golf on Wednesday who thought it was my responsibility to ensure that members consistently applied the rules during the Vet’s Wednesday Haggle. In this instance the discussion was around the application of the local rule relating to out of bounds.  For those who are unsure I suggest you refer to Rule E5 in the R & A rules book.  A diagrammatic explanation of the rule is provided and shows that the area of relief is behind where the ball crossed the boundary line and the reference point (edge of the fairway).  The reference point is not a place on the fairway adjacent to where the out of bounds ball has come to rest!!

Here is a link to a good explaination of the Rule: Rule E5

Dates to keep in mind.

THERE IS NO VETS HAGGLE THIS COMING WEDNESDAY DUE TO IT BEING THE LAST ROUND OF THE VET’S 3-DAY COMP.

  • 12/13/14  February   3 Day Pairs
  • 21 February  - Vet’s Haggle (Stableford) & 1st round of the Naked Meats Shootout Comp.
  • 26 February – BOP Vet’s at Omokoroa
  • 4 March – Vet’s Quad’s at Tauranga

Results

Results from this week’s  Haggle were;

Twos – Maxine Cotter, Ross Capill and Willem Potze.  Each player received 8 golf balls.

Division 1 – Michael Dow 39pts, Rod Murray 38, and Steve Ingall 38.

Division 2  - Anne Cable 40pts, Ron Deadman 38 Bob Duckworth 38.

Nearest the pin on the 11th – Ian Jory

‘Outa the Blue Hidden Holes’ (4,10,15) – A kindly donated $50.00 voucher.  Well done Tim Reehal

Best Gross round for the day – Ian Hawke, and a special mention of Ash Pennel’s eagle on the par 5, 5th hole. Well done guys.

Three Day Pairs Event – 12/13/14 February

Thanks to all of those people who have offered their time to help ensure that one of our signature events runs smoothly.  For local members playing in the event, please note that the optional rule for a ball out of bounds does not apply.  We are playing the substantive rule of stroke and distance for a ball hit out of bounds.

New Members.

Welcome to two new members,  Elva Travers and Paul Kasper.

Twilight
Jonathan Lewis

Another warm, balmy evening made perfect conditions for playing golf, and this was reflected in some very good scoring.

The format this week was Best Ball Nett and a couple of players recorded their best ever 9 hole scores. Among these was Ian Walker who shot a Gross 40 and teamed up with Mike Simmons to take out the top prize with a magnificent Nett 26. Not far behind were Barbara Duncalf and Martyn Clifford with a Nett 28, followed by Jen Carter and Nicole Bridson with a Nett 29. Again this has moved Jen and Nicole up the overall leaderboard and they are now only 2 points behind Jeff and Jamie Warren - the overall leaderboard can be found here.

Nicole had a very good evening and she won the ladies Nearest the Pin on the 4th hole and Martina Keir was the ladies winner on the 11th hole.  The men’s Nearest the Pin winners were Richard Apanui and Nathan Lewis. Longest putt winners were Yvonne Hoskins and Rae Milne. The winner of the complementary dinner courtesy of Brittany and Ana was Bill Neeley. Finally the two lucky draw winners were John Garnett and Jacqui Kerr.

A good night was enjoyed by all, and it is great to see not only the club room full but also the new outside tables and chairs being very well utilised.
