Staff
A massive welcome to our newest staff member.  Many of you will know Stacey Koppens from her ‘Golf Girl’ clothing and her coaching.  Stacey comes to us with a wealth of knowledge, and will no doubt be welcomed by you all to our wee family.  Stacey will be working part-time in the shop, starting tomorrow.

Ladies Carpet
Big thanks to the Ladies groups for contributing towards new carpet in the ladies changing rooms, and to Jon Swindells for laying it for us.  Big improvement.

New Local Rule
Please take note of the new rule regarding the practice fairway that has now been marked as GUR.  This is to alleviate the issue of balls being lost on the fairway, and to mitigate the danger of players being hit while on the practice fairway

Abnormal Course Conditions (GUR) Rule 16.  As defined by blue stakes or oil lines. Compulsory relief MUST be taken one club length from point of entry.  No penalty for lost ball.

9 Hole Ladies
Astrid Martin

Today, in glorious sunshine, some 18 hole ladies joined us to play 9 holes.  Great company and nice for us to meet some of our counterparts.

The winners on the day with 200 points to 188 was the 9 hole group.  Wonderful achievement ladies.

Individual winners on the day, both with a whopping 22 stableford points were Lesley Paton and Astrid Martin. congrats to you both.

Big thanks to M J Leuch, Astrid Martin and Lyn Harison for donating the raffle prizes and a special thanks to Trish Fecklington for the gorgeous flower planthers she made as part of the winners prize.

Laugh of the day goes to Dianne Mahoney who lost the top to her pen in the committee meeting. Many looked, Dianne wriggled and shook, thinking it might be stuck in her clothes, and eventually, she found it..........stuck on the end of the pen!

Gratitude to Jaqui Kerr and Lyn for excellent organisation as usual.

To celebrate the camaraderie felt today, a quote by F Scott Fitzgerald.

"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light, it scattered the night, and made the day worth living"

President's Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

A great big thank you to John Swindells for laying the new carpet in the ladies changing area and the clubhouse. And thank you ladies for supplying the funds.

  • Shootout Results
At the end of a long day, Rod Murray prevailed over Brian Gill. Rod was ecstatic and couldn’t believe his luck when Brian put his 3rd into the drain. Well done Rod. Commiserations to Brian.
  • A big thank you to all the volunteers who turned out on Monday to pour 3 truckloads of concrete for the paths on 13. Thank you to Sandra Gee and Robyn for the lovely morning tea, and Howard North for his inflight fruitcake.
  • A big shout out to John Crawshaw for his superb restoration of the water trailer: fresh coat of paint and new pump system. Thank you, John.
  • Raffle
There is a Christmas raffle for all members and visitors. Proceeds towards Course works. Thank you for your support.
  • In the last storm we lost our NZ Flag. If you find it on the Course, please return to the office.
  • What a great gathering for Melbourne Cup Day. Thanks to Jo and her team of very attractive helpers. Great food, drinks and company.

Cheers Swampy

In an exciting finish on the 18th, Jan Crawshaw took out the win over Dawn Rumney in a chip-off!  There were lots of dramatic exits, on what was a very long day of golf. Congratulations to all who qualified and played in it, and a big thank you to Steve Ellingford for being the sherriff, and our recorders, Jo Jory and Dee McCrea.

Tuesday 7th November

It was another very enjoyable Melbourne Cup Tournament, run by the Ladies Committee.

Betting on the race was all sorted out before the golf, and there were many happy winners and placegetters after the race was run, at 5pm. Many splendid hats and accessories were worn by the ladies (I think the men missed the memo!) and the winner of the best dressed were two female jockeys, Sue Thomson and Jan Crawshaw.

The profit, from the betting and the raffles, was very tidy this year and will be donated to the Breast Cancer Appeal Fund. A tasty buffet dinner was put on, after prizegiving by Brittany and Ana.

Vets Vibes

Captains Corner

Thanks to all Vet’s players who were at golf on Wednesday whether it was for the Haggle, the Men’s and Women’s Shootouts, or as support for the haggle and the shootouts.  My conservative estimation is that about 70 Vet’s players were in attendance.

I attended my first meeting of Daryl Muir’s Captains group last evening and was hugely enthused by Daryl’s leadership and the positivity that existed amongst all of the Captains.

Shootout Finals

Congratulations to John Holloway and Maryanne McGarva the winners of their respective Shootouts.  Four people gave up the opportunity to play on Wednesday to act as Sheriffs for the Shootouts.  Thankyou Fintan Downes, David Kenna, Alan Thomson and John Aldridge for giving freely of their time.  A thanks also goes to Stephen Weatherly for organising the comp.

Mixed Pairs Three Day Comp.  – 15/16/17 November

Planning for the tournament sponsored by Omokoroa Country Estate is almost complete.  The draw will be made by the end of the week and players advised of their tee time for Day 1 no later than Monday. Thanks to those members who have offered their time for volunteer roles.  Alan Thomson will be in touch with those people if he hasn’t done so already.

Vet’s Christmas Hamper – 13 December

The Committee has decided that there will be an increased prize budget, there will be two’s competitions for each division on holes 4 and 11, a longest putt prize on the 9th,   prizes for the best men’s and ladies playing outfit with a Christmas theme and haggle prizes for one and all.  Several raffles will also be run throughout the day.

A sheet will be circulating around the clubroom asking people to indicate whether they might play so we have an idea of the number of prizes etc.

Dates to keep in mind.

There is no Vet’s Haggle next Wednesday due to the 3 day tournament.
15/16/17 November – 3 Day Omokoroa Country Estate sponsored Mixed Pairs Matchplay Tournament
13 December – Vet’s Christmas Hamper

36 players entered Wednesday’s Haggle.
Stableford Comp – 1st Ian Graham 41pts, 2nd Barry Moss 40, 3rd Ron Deadman 37.

Twilight Golf
Pink Leow

The new twilight season got off to an excellent start with a very large field of 120 players enjoying a fun evening. Wonderful to see the club room full to overflowing after the golf - and Brittany and Ana were kept very busy serving up more than 90 meals - which were delicious.

Many thanks to our very generous sponsors - Par NZ Golfing Holidays, Mike Deane Motors, One Staff Recruitment Agency, Bethlehem Butchery and The Clubroom. They ensured we had a lot of prizes with lucky winners taking home the goodies - Cooler Bags, Petrol Vouchers, Sleeves of golf balls, Golf Club covers, Golf towels and plenty of Meat packs.

The competition format this week was ‘5 Clubs Only’. Winners on the night were Marcus Niles and Wayne Radonich with a massive combined 40 Stableford, 2nd place were Gae Stevenson and John Ward on 38 Stableford point. Peter Robertshaw and Brian Taylor were pipped into third place on a count back.

Barbara Aitken was the lucky winner of the complementary dinner courtesy of Brittany and Anna.

Next Wednesday will be the first of our “Sponsorship Nights” and the focus sponsor will be Mike Deane Motors. This promises to be another very successful evening, with lots of prizes.
