Presidents Message
Swampy Marsh

Sad News: Our own life member Bill Marshall has passed away after a long battle.
Bill will be remembered for his tireless work for the club in the very early days, with the formation of committees. Bill also purchased a section in 1978, the funds going towards the formation of the first 9 holes. Lot number 34, House 29.

Bill was also a member of our senior pennants team in 1979 and a member of the club committee in 1979. On the 16th December 1978, Bill donated 2 hams for opening day 9 holes. He was very active as Greens Convener and member of the Finance Committee.  Bill was a valued member of the Eagles Society Omokoroa.  Club members offer their sincere sympathies to the Marshall family.

Junior Open (Futures Tournament)
My sincere thanks to the team of volunteers, Hayden Nganeko, Shawn Kenny and family, Sam Kendall BOP Golf for their assistance in running the tournament.

A field of 60 Juniors enjoyed a great fun day followed by a light meal in a crowded clubhouse.

Some great scoring by the Juniors, and our own Fynn Campbell blitzed the field, coming in 1st place. Taupo took out the team trophy, only 3 strokes separating the top 3.

Big shout out to the sponsors: The Clubroom, Eagles Society, Trafalgar Trust, Team Trueman Bayleys Real Estate, Golf BOP and of course, Omokoroa Golf Club.

Thanks to the Green staff, caterers, bar staff MJ, Brittany for the food and Barb in the office. A job well done!

9 Hole Ladies
Astrid Martin

Today, in SUNSHINE, we held the top 10 shootout. Congratulations to Yvonne Hoskings who pipped our tenacious Robyn Lusby in a putting shoot out on the 9th hole after they finished tied, to take the win.

3rd - Rohanne Hancock
4th - Mary Jane Leuch
5th - Astrid Martin

Well done to everyone who participated.

On the back nine, for those not competing Alison North and Bev Hansen both had 21 stableford points!! Great effort ladies.

After watching todays play, I thought the following quote was relevant.

"while you might be doubting yourself, someone else is admiring your strength"

Happy golfing everyone.

9 Hole Men
Fred Hartley

Thursday 2nd November
One of the fun events in which each team of four (or three) carry an “Odd Ball” that has to be brought in at the completion of the round, where the team result is the Stableford score for the Odd Ball. One year ago only 3 teams out of 8 managed to score, today this increased to 6 out of 8 so skills have progressed (maybe).

Prize winners were:-
Frank Brown, Allan Winter, Fred Hartley                                         18     points
Steve Crossfield, Lawson Stewart, Denis Douglas, Alan Poore           17        "
(Two other teams on 17 lost out on a countback).

Next Week, 9th November: -  4 Clubs and a putter to be followed by the AGM.

Captains Corner
Thanks to the 36 players who turned out on Wednesday.  Early morning weather may have been a bit ‘iffy’ but the weather improved and a fun day was had by all.  It was disappointing for the majority though, to have to wait 45 minutes (or thereabouts) for the final group to complete their round after all other players were in the clubhouse waiting patiently.  Please people, the pace of play is the responsibility of each one of us.  Please keep up with the group in front of you,  or if you have a clear run put your self on the clock. It should take you no longer than 2 hours to complete each half of the course. AND …. ‘Ready Golf’ is the norm not the exception!!

Shootout Finals
Congratulations to those men and women who have made the final of the 2023 Naked Meats Shootout. The final will be played on Wednesday the 8 of November.   The names of the 19 men qualifiers and those women who have completed the requisite 5 qualifying rounds have been emailed and asked to confirm the intention to play.  All finalists are asked to be at the golf club NO LATER THAN 8.00am on Wednesday the 8th.

Mixed Pairs Three Day Comp.  – 15/16/17 November
Planning is well advanced.  Alan Thomson is managing the Volunteer Schedule for the tournament.   If you have some time on any or all of the 3 days to help with the usual volunteer tasks.  If you can help please call Alan on 027 433 7520 and discuss your availability and task options.

Vet’s Christmas Hamper – 13 December
The Committee has decided that there will be an increased prize budget, there will be two’s competitions for each division on holes 4 and 11, a longest putt prize on the 9th,   prizes for the best men’s and ladies playing outfit with a Christmas theme and haggle prizes for one and all.  Several raffles will also be run throughout the day.

A sheet will be circulating around the clubroom from Wednesday next – we are asking for a non-binding indication of numbers planning on playing in the Christmas hamper.

Dates to keep in mind.
8 November – Shootout Finals & Vet’s Haggle (Best Nett)
