Hi All – another disappointing weather delay with ANNAN LAW Saturday Golf cancelled due to course closure.

The regular CARTER PATRONS TROPHY 3RD Round is cancelled leaving Alan Hitchener 142 in 1st place, closely followed by Marcus Annan 143.  Well done you two.

This Saturday is the commencement of the Strokeplay which is automatic entry, but mark your card if unavailable for all rounds.

Don’t forget committee meeting 9.30am.

Shoot out to date:
Brent Jennings 189
Ash Pennell        186
Brian Gill            185
With a large number of players on 185 and 184.

A big thanks to the kind members who donated clothing for the Napier cyclone relief. Awesome!!  The Maraenui Golf Club will accept everything as many of their members have been left with nothing.  If anyone is able to get to Napier and drop these off to the club, please contact Swampy.

Pennants Golf
The Mens Championship and Senior divisions played there rounds at the Omokoroa Course last Sunday. Our Teams had byes so weren't involved.

The Intermediate Team beat the Mount by 3.5 - 2.5, with Ed Davies, Hugh Clark and Dave Hughes winning their matches. Andy Kirk made a pressure 3 m putt on the 18th to score a vital half.

The Juniors lost a tight battle to the Tauranga side, 2 - 4. David Woods and Alan Nicholls were the winners on the day.

This Week the Intermediates and Juniors play their final rounds of the zones at Omokoroa before the playoffs. The Championship and Senior Teams are playing at Rotorua GC.

Good Luck to all the squads.

Pennants Results
The Championship Pennants Team played Rotorua United at Arikikakapa last Sunday. Kellie Orchard, Anya Apanui, Pink Leow, Sue Thomson, Wendy Harris and myself. We lost to the Rotorua team, but came away very inspired by the high standard of golf these ladies (and girls!) play. It’s great having the leadership and encouragement of Kellie Orchard, who is used to playing golf at this level.

Tasmanian Golf Results
We have a few of our Omokoroa members currently playing in Tasmania, and doing so very successfully!

At the latest tournament, in Barnbougle Dunes, Maxine Cotter won the ladies event and Ian Jory won the men’s event.

RESULTS
BOP Vets
Can be summarised along the lines:  “It came,it rained,it conquered” –

Al Thompson did a top job marshalling the field and getting us away despite the trying weather conditions. The weather deteriorated as did playing conditions and a sensible call was made  to abandon the day after 9 holes. A disappointment for the efforts involved but there were good outcomes for those who still benefitted from the prize table.

We certainly haven’t been fortunate with the weather dealt to us for our tournaments over recent months. But things must change.

Wednesday Haggle
1st Div
John Holloway                   39   points   (would have been singing even louder after that round)
David Kenna                       37   points
2nd Div
Bob Duckworth                  34   points
Jan Gill                                 33 points

NOTE  There was a DotGolf clitch on Wednesday which initially affected some “Shootout”scores. These have now been corrected.

Coming Events
Monday 6th March - The opening round of the Quads Tournament kicks off this Monday. We have a full team of 25 representing Omokoroa so good luck to all participants. Well done Ian Howells for stepping up and coordinating this year’s event. A fair bit involved to be fair

Welcome to:
A recent visitor to our ranks from the UK has been David Hill’s brother. Family, cricket and golf I gather behind his trip. As David mentioned to me, you will recognise him as “ he’s the one with looks and the money” . Typical David being unassuming and modest. Whatever, we extend a warm welcome.

ADMIN/ SECRETARY  ROLE
We are really really looking for some admin support moulded loosely around a secretary  role. A number of usual functions have been absorbed by other committee members but assistance in this general area would be invaluable. I can assure you it is not too time consuming but would be a great help. If approached give it some thought or see Steve if you can help.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

Summer finally arrived on the first day of Autumn, and a glorious evening was enjoyed by another full field.

The competition format was Foursomes, which presented a few challenges with various playing partners putting the ball into some unfamiliar territory. The scoring was very close indeed with 10 teams on a score of nett 39 or 39.5. The competition winners were Peter Cooke and Keith Bardwell with an excellent score of nett 32.5. They were closely followed by relative newcomers Manie and Annelie van Emmenes with a score of nett 33.5.

Nearest the pin winners were Tim Trickett & Des Southall, Gail Nichols & Sue Thomson, Dawn & Steve Rumney, Brian Gill & Russell Croome - all received a sleeve of 2 Titleist golf balls.

Brittany and Ana again put on a wonderful spread of roast meats, sausages, pasta, vegetables and multiple salads with breads and rolls. Nearly 80 players enjoyed the meal and the winner of the complementary dinner was Shirley Hurn.

The overall leaderboard remains very close with Robyn and Cliff King moving up a couple of places. To see the full leaderboard click here.

Only 2 weeks of Twilight remaining - let’s hope that the weather behaves itself. And many thanks again to all the helpers to make it a successful evening.
