Manager's Message
Marcus Niles

Bar Staff
This month we bid a fond farewell to two awesome Bar staff.
It has been a pleasure to have Patrick in the bar the past few months.  He is a vibrant young man with a great work ethic.  Paddy heads off to AUT in Auckland to study, and hopefully we will see him again next summer during his break.

Sadly, we are also losing Tina soon too.  She has been a superstar in the bar, and she will be sorely missed by both members and her fellow staff.  We wish her the best of luck, and hope to see her on the other side of the bar in the future.

So… we are on the hunt for our next star bar person.  If you know anyone who might be a good fit for us, tap them on the shoulder!  See the advert at the bottom of this newsletter for more info.

Trailer
Just a reminder to members that we have an enclosed luggage trailer that can be used for pennants teams or groups.  Book in the office if you want to use it.

Significant Birthdays and Retirements
We would like to wish Jessie Savage a very happy birthday for her very significant birthday this week. What an amazing golfer, role model and inspiration you are to us all Jessie!

And on a sadder note, Ngaire Donovan, announced at Tuesday Ladies Prizegiving that she is retiring from golf. Another wonderful golfer and role model who has contributed a lot to the sport and to our club. Thank you Ngaire, and all the best for your retirement.

Earlier Start
Due to the starters having trouble getting the ladies’ fields sorted, in a short period of time, it has been decided, by the committee, to go back to having cards in 30 minutes before tee off times on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Saturdays -    cards in by 8am for 8.30 start.
Tuesdays -    cards in by 8.30 for 9am start

Vets Vibes

RESULTS – WEDNESDAY HAGGLE
Div 1
1st     Al Thomson
2nd    Alan Mayo  (and a top round bettering his age)
3rd     Steve Ingle

Div 2
1st      Tim Reehal
2nd     Larry Mahoney
3rd      Paul Cole
Lucky Card Draw  - $50 - Linley Jamieson-Hill

Biggest Winner
Well on top of his winning performance at Taumaranui then again this week at Vets, this must go to Tim Reehal. But he saved his best performance away from the course in meeting a checkpoint following his Taumaranui victory and duly celebrating his success and I gather being waved through. The advantages of being softly spoken and having an honest face and despite Cherie recommending to the officer a custodial sentence was justified.

3 Day Pairs Event - 13th 14th 15th Feb
Planning all set for next week’s event.  Entries have now been finalised and usual draw and notification will be emailed to entrants over the weekend for the opening day.
We are looking at possible effects of Cyclone Gabrielle heading our way but hoping any effect will be minor – at worst.  If decisions need to be made these will be conveyed asap.

BOP Vets - Monday 27th Feb
Omokoroa is hosting this event. Co-ordinator and delegate is Al Thomson. He is still taking entries so contact him or see noticeboard if interested. Fine weather guaranteed.

Quads 6th Mar
At Tauranga, but we are still chasing up confirmation of the day’s schedule and will post Entry Sheet in Locker Room once this is received.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

All of our “regulars” were available to play this week which meant that we had a record number of  112 players in the field - a busy evening. The weather was lovely, which made a very nice change.

Competition format for the evening was “Power Play” with each player in the team choosing 3 holes where they would double their score. Competition was very close with only 9 points separating the first 22 teams. Winners on the evening were Marcus Niles and Wayne Radonich with 51 points - who won on a count back from Allan Winter and Allan Hoskins. Marcus and Wayne collected the 2 x $30 petrol vouchers courtesy of Mike Deane Motors. Nathan Lewis and Rick Clark were one point further back. The overall season long leader board is also very close with any number of teams within a few points of the lead. You can view the updated leader board here.

Nearest to pin winners were Martina Kier, Billy-Jo Simmons, Patrick Hawkins and Jake Buskirk - who all received a sleeve of Titleist golf balls courtesy of Par NZ Golfing Holidays.

Brittany and Ana were very busy (and very hot) in the kitchen serving up 80 meals. Pulled pork, roast beef, roast vegetables, variety of salads, breads rolls and looked really good and tasted great.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make it such a successful evening.
