Events
Starting this weekend we have a big few days. The annual Omokoroa Open kicks off tomorrow with 152 entries, and we host the 5 Course Classic Monday to Thursday. We have been very unlucky with weather leading up to these big events, but the lads have worked very hard to present the course as best they can under the circumstances. Massive thanks in advance to all members who are volunteering to help out.
13th Hole
Starting tomorrow, the 13th fairway is back in action. Its not ready to be hit off yet, so for now you need to take a free drop and place into the rough either side of the fairway (you choose which side). If you are on a different hole and your ball is on the 13th fairway, treat it as GUR (nearest point of relief, no placing)
Placing
The local rule for placing is now ‘1 club length on own mown fairway’. We are keen to see uniformity and avoid confusion, so this replaces any previous versions of the placing rule. There may be occasions when the starters need to amend this due to course conditions.
Range Balls – Update from Anya Apanui
Kia Ora e te whanau,
Firstly, just another thank you to everyone who has been supporting the driving range, it’s great to see you all practicing and hopefully it’s paying off! Proceeds have been going towards coaching fees, equipment and tournaments like the NZ Maori Nationals at Centennial Golf Course in Taupo and the Omokoroa Open. Secondly, a big thanks to Hayden Nganeko, for picking up the balls while I was away with my grandparents in Picton for Christmas and New Years. You may notice a few changes happening - a massive thanks to Swampy, for making our hitting area safer with dividers - legend! We are also trying to distinguish the range balls a little better by colouring half of the ball with dazzle, because if you’re like my Dad and end up on the practice from the 18th tee it can be difficult to find your ball. I thank you all again for your support and please remember to hit from the designated area, use the sand available to fill divots and enjoy yourselves!
New Kiosk Screens
Further to the above, we are getting some flash new Kiosk screens delivered soon, paid for by the club’s proceeds from range ball sales. So, thanks to everyone who buys the balls, it is supporting both our top junior and the club.
